Why 1200TC feels different
The extra threads in 1200TC are finer and packed closer together, and the sateen weave lets more thread sit on the surface. That is what gives it the silky touch and the soft shine. The trade off is that a denser weave holds a little more warmth, so very hot sleepers may prefer 1000TC in summer.
Which lasts longer?
Both last for years with normal care. Wash in cool or warm water, skip bleach, and take them out of the dryer while slightly damp to keep the cotton soft. Rotating two sets also helps each one last longer.

Our 1000TC and 1200TC sheets are 100% pure cotton. We do not label them as Egyptian cotton.
